There’s an eclectic mix of things to do throughout the year in Leeds. It’s one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the UK and home to a vibrant student community that just loves to party. We get a lot of different people from around the world staying at our hostel. We can safely say, no one has ever been disappointed by what the city has to offer.

Brew-Denell Beer Festival
If you like to combine business with beer, then this small festival which takes part in January is going to be the perfect start to the New Year. Now in its seventh year, ales from the local area are on show as well as plenty from the US and Australia. The festival is held at the Brudenell Social Club and there’s live entertainment in the evening.

Slam Dunk
This has been a big part of Leeds music culture from the beginning of the noughties. What started out as organising a few bands here and there in venues around the city has since transformed into a major festival that attracts thousands from all around the world. If you love pop-punk, rock and alternative music, Slam Dunk runs in May each year.

Leeds International Tattoo Expo
This widely attended expo held at the Leeds First Direct Arena in July each year is now in its 6thyear and is a must for anyone interested in body art. Numerous talented tattoo artists from around the world attend and there’s an off-the-wall market with weird and wonderful stalls that is worth the entry fee alone.

Live at Leeds
Featuring over 200 bands and singers, Live at Leeds is all about showcasing new talent in the region. It takes place throughout the year at various venues around the city. If you want to see what’s up and coming in the world of indie music, this is one event you should keep track of.

Cocoon in the Park
Cocoon takes place at Temple Newsam Park in Leeds in July and is a festival of light, sound and stunning visual effects. Thousands of people flood to the park each year and it’s marketed as a once in a lifetime experience. Since it started back in 2009, the event has gone from strength to strength and is now bigger than ever.

Leeds Pride
Most big cities have their own pride festival and Leeds is no different. There is a thriving LGBTQ community and the event in August brings visitors from across the UK and the globe. Expect plenty of sparkle, bands and a warm welcome around the city if you decide to attend.

Leeds West Indian Carnival
Another day of bright colours and lively music is the Leeds Carnival that kicks off in May. There’s a parade as well as various events including plays, music and plenty of food stalls. It’s one of the biggest cultural events of the Leeds festival calendar and certainly not one to miss.
