Favourite things to do in Leeds

There are many different things to do in Leeds that we could probably put together an entire book dedicated to the city – but here’s a brief look at some of the main places to visit and socialise…

Shopping

Got room in your backpack or case for a few extra items? Then head to one of the great shopping centres, such as Trinity for high street favourites, Victoria Gate for designer indulgences or the architectural beauty of the Corn Exchange for independent stores and funky souvenirs. You can work your way round them all, with even more shops and precincts lining the interconnecting streets.

Culture

There are some fantastic museums in Leeds, so try to include The Royal Armouries, Leeds City Museum and the Thackray Medical Museum. There’s also the city centre art gallery, The Tetley and further afield you have beautiful Kirkstall Abbey and Temple Newsam house and estate. The city also plays home to 3 theatres and has some lovely parks you can enjoy, such as Roundhay and Hyde Park. As with any city, there’s also a wide range of restaurants, cafes and other things to do in Leeds – so come and explore the city then rest your weary head back at our friendly hostel when you’re too tired to do any more sightseeing!

Pubs and clubs

There are literally hundreds of places to go for a great night out in Leeds – or a cheeky afternoon tipple while you take a break from shopping! One of the most popular haunts is Call Lane, where you’ll find bars, late party pubs and some great clubs playing a selection of music. The area around the university also has some great student pubs, or you could try The Alchemist or Botanist for city centre cocktail cocktails, the Duck and Drake for something more low key, Whitelocks – reportedly the oldest pub in Leeds – or simply walk on any street and just head in the nearest drinking establishment! The HiFi Club is a funky little spot, as is the Smokestack, or for house, hip hop and garage, try Club Mission
