Outdoor City Weekender
Kicking off the Spring, this event proves there’s no better time to be in Sheffield than March. The Outdoor City Weekender combines everything from a hill walking challenge to the local film festival. If you like mountain bike action, there’s also the competitive Howard Street Dual to keep you entertained.

Tramlines Music Festival
Tramlines has already become a staple of the Sheffield music scene and attracts visitors from all over the UK and the world. Taking place in July it’s marketed as the biggest party in Europe and there are plenty of big names to keep everyone happy. Last years line up included the Stereophonics, Jake Bug and Noel Gallagher as well as many exciting local bands.

Sensoria in Sheffield
Music, film and digital media is the name of the game at Sensoria which runs at the beginning of October. If your thing is arthouse movies, serious talks, masterclasses and exhibitions, this is well worth a visit. You may even run into a few homegrown stars and directors who can kickstart your acting career or look at your new script.

Sheffield Doc Fest
Another more cerebral festival, if documentaries are your thing this is certainly going to hit the right spot. Doc Fest runs in June for five days and has a range of special events and talks as well as viewings of many new and exciting films. It’s definitely non-mainstream. Many screenings have Q&A sessions with the documentary makers and the whole thing draws to a close with an award ceremony at the Sheffield City Hall Ballroom.

Sheffield Food Festival
For all foodie lovers, there are plenty of events in Sheffield throughout the year to keep you satisfied. The main food festival takes place over a weekend in May and spreads from the Winter Gardens to Millennium Square. There are top chefs on show as well as artisan producers and plenty of street food to tantalise your taste buds and give you some great cooking ideas.

Steel City 44
Like most cities in the North East, Sheffield has a special affinity for craft ales and beer. The annual Steel City Beer and Cider Festival attracts visitors from all around the globe and runs over a whole weekend in mid-October. There’s live music from local bands and a wide range of different street food on offer.

Sheffield Christmas Markets
Finally, Christmas is a great time to visit the city and there’s always a market to help get you in the festive spirit. Opening a couple of weeks before Christmas Day, the Sheffield market has the usual fayre of food and drink designed to warm the cockles on a chilly December night. You’ll also find almost 50 cabins with all sorts of Yuletide goodies on show.
